No, you’re not imagining things. Yes, this really is the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 and no, it doesn’t that much different from the old one that arrived in 2003.
Then again, you can’t really blame the Italian supercar manufacturer for keeping any changes to a minimum. Since the Gallardo arrived in 2003, more than 7000 of them have left Lamborghini showrooms, accounting for around 90 per cent of sales. It’s fair to say that the Gallardo is largely responsible for Lamborghini’s current healthy financial state. It’s easy to see why the Sant’Agata firm wanted more of an evolution than revolution for its new car.

On the outside
At first glance, it’s hard to spot the changes to the new Gallardo LP560-4 (to use its full official title), but look closer or parked alongside the old car and they become obvious. At the front end, it’s now more aggressive with a sharper nose similar to the Reventon limited edition and Murcielago-like front air intakes. There are also Y-shaped LED daytime running lights too.

Along with four new types of wheel design (two alloy and two black - we have rather a soft spot for the latter), the old rear wing top flat grille is now gone replaced by plain bodywork, while there’s a wider grille at the back and, again, Reventon-style arrowhead rear lights.

The new look makes the Gallardo look sharper and cleaner in many ways, but perhaps the biggest deal is a new range of colours including those with a matt finish. We haven’t seen the matt white or matt brown (!), but trust me, the pearlescent white looks gorgeous and the Stealth Fighter matt black looks meaner than Mike Tyson with a migraine.
