While we're all nursing the hangover from hell and desperately trying to avoid taking the Christmas tree down, we thought we'd take a minute to look back on the highs and the lows of what 2007 had to offer us keen petrol heads. There were some jaw-droppingly beautiful cars released this past year, (as well as the occasional munter) and of course, no motor racing season would be complete without a little bit of controversy and scandal. So for every car company that finished on top of the world in 2007, there is another one out there wounded. And in between the Champagne-induced migraine spasms and starting our 'spritualized journey of self improvement', we've managed to nominate our winners and losers for 2007.
Good Year
1. Audi
It has been a superb year for Audi. Not only did the Audi R10 TDI triumph at this year's Le Mans 24-hour race - yes that's right, it's a diesel. The new R8 became the supercar to adorn every teenage boy's bedroom. Everybody wants one, including us. If that wasn't enough, Audi then decided to design a sports coupe specifically to knock the BMW 3-series coupe from its well established perch. The A5 is succeeding at this task too, bettering the BMW 3-series for both space and style if not yet for handling. In the flesh, it is a very handsome car that strangely, seems to be able to flow over Britain's broken asphalt. With a V10 version of the R8 due next year as well as an upmarket supermini in the pipeline, things are looking good in Ingolstadt.
