Think of Morgan and chances are images of vintage-looking sports cars spring to mind. Well prepare to rearrange your mental landscape as this most quintessentially British company unveils this hydrogen fuel cell ‘Life Car’ concept at the Geneva motor show.
Developed in conjunction with a number of companies and universities and with the help of a grant from the Department of Trade and Industry, the project brief was to develop a zero-emissions car that retained that key sports car element of fun. Morgan’s ability to create low volume, hand crafted machines may well mean that they are amongst the first to bring a fuel cell car to the market.
Morgan’s traditional use of ash construction as a consctruction material handily fits into the environmentally friendly aspirations and the Life Car adds yet more wood to the interior. No, not in the usual ‘walnut gearknob’ sense but actually using its natural properties in order to create lightweight, eco-friendly and above all, desirable design solutions.
There’s no word yet on exactly what will power the Life Car beyond the promise of a fuel cell hybrid system of some kind with a range of around 200 miles.
Rest assured that we’ll bring you all of the details as soon as they’re announced and we’ll definitely be clambering to be the first to plonk our behinds into the Morgan’s very sexy leather and wood cabin in Geneva.
