Yes, we know you’ve already seen the new Ford Fiesta but now it’s on show in Britain, the blue oval is getting specific about model offerings and prices.
The entry-level 58bhp, 1.25-litre Fiesta Studio goes on sale this October and will cost £8695. That makes it slightly more expensive than the equivalent Vauxhall Corsa, but it is newer and will come with a better level of standard specification including a driver’s knee airbag.
There will be three range-topping models too, all priced from around £12,000 but all receiving a different tailored specification to match the driver’s needs. These models include Zetec S (for the sportier driver), Titanium (for all those luxurious goodies) and Econetic (if you're feeling green).
The Econetic Fiesta is powered by a 1.6-litre diesel unit which is said to produce 89bhp and importantly, just 98g/km of CO2. Ford reckons it should also manage a combined fuel consumption figure of 76mpg. That would make it the cleanest family car on sale today - even cleaner than a Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion.
First impressions from the floor? Well, we haven't found a better finished interior in this segment and considering the new Fiesta uses the same platform as a Mazda 2, it also looks like a substantially larger car. However, the standard 16in alloys manage to look a bit small on the entry-level models, so we’d recommend potential customers to tick the ‘bigger alloys’ options box.
