Ferrari California - First Look

It was only yesterday that we told you about Ferrari’s teaser website for its upcoming ‘GT’. But now we can bring you the first official pictures of the car will officially be named California.

The California will be the first ever front-engined Ferrari V8 as well as the first Prancing Horse to feature a de rigeur folding hardtop if you ignore the 575 Superamerica’s rotating system.

The car is descriped as having ‘2+’ seating which suggests that the rear seats will only be useful for small children and the odd canine accessory.

As expected, the California will use a revised version of the F430’s flat-crack V8 that will produce 460bhp at 7,500rpm. This relatively low engine speed hints that the California will be more relaxed to drive than its highly-strung brethren as does the use of the company’s first dual-clutch, 7-speed gearbox.

Of course everything’s relevant – it is still capable of hitting 60mph in well under 4 seconds while a CO2 emissions figure of 310g/km is the company’s lowest figure by far and proves that Ferraris can be green as well as red. If you see what I mean.

Prices are expected to be around the £150,000 mark when sales start later this year.

We’ll keep you up to date as the rest of the details are uncovered but for now, here’s a link to sonic erotica: www.ferrarigtcountdown.com

Ugly??!! What!!! Amber are you blind?? Its drop dead gorgeous in my opinion. Hats off to Ferrari for being brave and putting the engine in the front. This should suit the car down to the ground and I don't think they would have got this look if the engine was in the rear. I can't wait to take delivery of mine..................... In my dreams of course! Bellissimo!!!! Ferrari bene fatto. Sbalordire!

With the flair of the AR Spider, a hint of The Elise and bullishness of the Classic AC Cobra all held together with the Fiery Red Horse tugging at the chain to be set free...Ferrari Classic Design personified...true expression of Ferraris curvacious avante-garde design ethic...simply exquisite. I'd love to see the interior detail.

I think it is absolutely beautiful. 2 things I am not happy with is a) front grille b)engine in front but overall, fantastic. "Forza Ferrari!!

It does look a little 'dumpy'. But I wouldn't say it was necessarily a bad thing. Look at J.Lo...dumpy in all the right places, haha. I think we're all used to much sleeker 'Angelina Jolie' looking car from Ferrari.
