Audi is entering the compact 4x4 market later this year with this, the Q5. It’s the third (and smallest) off-road model to be offered by Audi, and one which the Ingolstadt-based company reckons will be good enough to tempt people away from the likes of the BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander and forthcoming Volvo XC60.

On the outside
The Q5 looks like a leaner relative of the vast, seven-seat Q7, with the wraparound tail lights and low-slung roofline mimicking the stance of its bigger sibling. Most of the lines on this car explode outwards from the dominant chrome grille up front, which does its best to exude sportiness. There isn’t anything revolutionary here, but it’s stylish and typically, reassuringly Audi.

Just like the Q7, there’s plenty of potential for pimping too, with Audi offering drug-dealer spec window tints, chromed 20in alloys and S-line bodykits as options. Probably best to avoid the metallic beige though, which is about as charming as it sounds.
