Meet the Mini – by Alfa. This is the Mito, the new small car from Alfa Romeo that seeks to counter the Mini’s Anglo-German cheekiness with some Italian brio. It goes on sale next January priced from £10,975.

On the outside
The Mito pays homage to the 8C supercar, with many of the styling cues, such as the round rear lamps and the extravagant, v-shaped nose are plundered from Alfa’s style leader. But this is a small hatchback, not an £138,500 sports car, and the fusion of the two is not always successful.

From the rear three-quarter it looks pert and appealing, but at the front the blend between the overtly sporting Alfa grille and the cutesy headlights is uncomfortable. To our eyes, it looks rather effeminate which might compromise Alfa’s desire for it to appeal to a predominantly male audience.
