Honda Insight – Official Pictures

We’ve already seen the new Honda Insight hybrid concept and a solitary press shot but we’ve just hunted down the first official pictures of what Honda hopes will persuade people out of their more expensive Toyota Pious Prius’.

The Honda Insight claims to offer the environmental and financial benefits of hybrid power but at a much lower cost; think Ford Focus money and you’ll not be far off.

The Insight  will sit below the existing Civic Hybrid in the Honda range. Styling cues are taken from the larger, hydrogen fuel cell FCX Clarity that’s already in production and there's also a fair bit of, whisper it, Prius in there too.

The Insight uses the same IMA electric/petrol setup as the Civic Hybrid but moves the control unit and battery pack under the boot for improved packaging and a lower centre of gravity. Let's hope it works better than the Civic we tried.

We’re still awaiting full details but expect a starting price of around £14,000. We’re expecting confirmation very soon.

I don't think I'll give up my original Insight, unless this one also is such a blast on roundabouts and Z3 drivers continue to look amazed as an 'electric' car beats them off the lights. With Honda technology and £4k less this car is a no brainer, I love taking my £0 tax disc renewal form to the post office to baffle them. Three years on my Insight is still a head turner not sure this will be the same 3 years on when we're all driving them.

If only they could build a Ferrari with zero emmissions for £14k. I think people should recognise that this car is less about styling and more about affordable efficient eco-friendly driving. Company car drivers will save a fortune on their tax bill by choosing this car.

This design is totally lacking in elegance. It has nothing to boast about; it is a shapeless, ugly form. Too many of Honda's products, of late, have displayed this lack of poise. A potential car buyer needs something more than sound engineering -he or she needs an image to be proud of. This one is just "all wrong!"

It has to look like that for the most efficient airflow and I think you will find it only looks like the Prius because the Prius copied the original Insight design !
