Cadillac has really stepped it up in design terms recently and this new SRX crossover, set to debut at the Detroit Motor Show, is another Caddy that won't only be the reserve of those with a panchant for line dancing and Elvis.
It follows the same path as the CTS with a sharp, angular face and wedgy profile but with nicely refined surfacing rather than the Etch a Sketch slabbiness of earlier “Art and science” Cadillacs.
It’s based on the same platform as the Vauxhall Insignia but also pilfers oily bits from the Saab 9-3 Turbo-X including its 2-8-litre, twin-turbo V6 engine and four-wheel drive system. Let’s hope it doesn’t also inherit that car’s build quality issues.
There’s no word yet on if or when the SRX will head to the UK although the current car made it over here in right-hand drive so there’s every chance this new one will. But what it really needs to make any sort of impact is a diesel engine. Either that or the company’s hybrid system to take on the Lexus RX450h.
