New Ford Mustang is still unmistakably a 'stang.

Taking centre stage at this year’s LA Auto Show is the new Ford Mustang and 'We’ve got the Need, the Need for Steed!' After being teased with Pony details for what feels like an eternity, this is finally our chance for a proper look around the iconic muscle car that hits US showrooms late next year from around $30k.
Ford describes the new Mustang as “muscle going modern” but that doesn’t mean introducing petrol-electric powertrains. It just means the Ford Mustang is trying to move its game on beyond the retro-modern vibe that’s proved so successful in recent years. It’s also much more modern inside, with plastics and a fit in finish much closer to its European counterparts. As we say, closer, but still not quite there.
In addition to the coupe, there’s a convertible and a glass-roofed version that will follow shortly afterwards.
As you can see from the pictures, more attention to detail has helped this latest version look a lot less ‘Tonka toy’. The door mirrors are smaller and colour coded, the indicators have been integrated into the headlamps, the LED tail lamps are more angular and just look at that power dome. One of the best bits is that the car’s aerial has been moved to the back of the car, which looks soooo much better than some long flapping wire perched on the front wing. Now I know we may sound like a load of geeky pedants right now, particularly when you find out that this car won’t even officially hit our shores, but how can we ignore this car? The Ford Mustang is America’s equivalent of the Ford Focus, albeit with a 4.6-litre V8 engine.
Let’s hope it inspires middle America to start spending their hard earned again.
