We know times are hard at the moment, but if you’re still in the market for a new car, you probably want to don your sensible hat and keep your money as safe as possible. That’s why we’ve spoken to the price residual experts at Parkers to find you twenty motors that have the lowest depreciation of any car currently on sale, as well as the twenty cars to avoid. The residual values have been recorded after 12 months of ownership and are expressed here as a percentage of the car’s original value. That’s more accurate than simply creating a list of cars that have lost the least amount of money, as we’d probably just end up with a chart full of superminis. This way, every income level is catered for. So if your car makes it into the list of winners, you have every reason to feel a bit smug. If it's in the losers list, then you're best hanging on to your pride and joy for a bit longer. Remember depreciation curves get less severe the longer you hang on to your car. If for some reason, your car doesn't appear in either list, why not visit Parkers to see how the residuals are holding up.

The only car I have ever sold for a profit after 1.5 years of ownership was a 98 polo automatic. Bought for 2300 sold for 3000. I now have a new Polo as it was not worth buying one used due to average depreciation of £1000 a year. Polo's did not even made this list. I can't remember seeing any golfs either. Who came up with this rubish? Did they ever take a look at autotrader?
Why people have no money? Everything is cheaper now, great to live in a recesion for people with secure jobs. Except the very few who lost jobs, the rest are just tight , scared from the news on TV.
Sky's stats are correct: The diesel-powered MINI 1.4TD is the UK’s slowest-depreciating used car, according to new analysis of the residual values of three-year-old vehicles carried out by EurotaxGlass’s, publisher of Glass’s Guide. The supermini currently has an average trade-in value of 63.2 per cent; better than that of any other used car currently on sale.
My wife has an Audi A5 2.7 diesel as a company car. I was hoping to buy it off the lease company as a credit crunch bargain. No such luck now. Matt
